Depression in a patient with juvenile acne treated with doxycycline. Case report

Introduction: acne vulgaris has been considered one of the dermatoses with the greatest psychological effects, related to depression, anxiety and frustration; In turn, doxycycline can cause mood alteration, including depression, as a side effect.
Objective: to present the case of a patient with juvenile acne and symptoms of anxiety and depression after treatment with doxycycline.
Case presentation: White, male patient, 20 years old, with a history of mental health. A month and a half after starting the dermatological treatment with doxycycline 200mgs (daily), due to juvenile acne, he began to present symptoms of anxiety and depression; a psychological study was necessary to confirm the presence of the aforementioned symptoms. He received psychiatric treatment with alprazolan and sertraline for a period of six months; His evolution was satisfactory with the disappearance of her symptoms.
Conclusions: the identification of the possible causes of the appearance of depressive symptoms allows early diagnosis, timely treatment and better resilience.
